Boom in tourism at .. Museums!
Some say that culture is dead but instead you would be surprised that there has been a boom all over the world among museums!
The reasons behind this are many. Museums have been keeping up with what brings in people by incorporating technology with trends to entice visitors to their locations.
The happened only after a stagnant period and museum directors realizing that the old methods just didn’t work anymore. People were no longer interested in looking at
the same artefacts and instead started to think about basing exhibitions on themes.
For example, tourists were much more likely to visit if the exhibition was
focused on one specific time in history, like ancient Egypt –
which has been proven by the sudden influx in museum visits after incorporating these themes. The Art Newspaper compiled a list of statistics that supported this fact in their annual survey.
The survey had some interesting results, for example, at Paris’s most famous museum – The Louvre, they received close to 9 million people last year which is a 5% increase in visitors.
Also the New York’s Metropolitan Museum Of Art was ableto pull in over 6 million visitors and the British Museum a non shy number of 5.8 million visitors.
Two more British museums make up the current top five, with the National Gallery on 5.2 million visitors and Tate Modern with 4.8 million visitors.
The Louvre has held top place since 2007 and experts say the key reason is that it has arguably the most famous painting in the world in Leonardo da Vinci’s Mona Lisa.
Why the increase in numbers? Many say it is due to new amazing exhibitions that have people interested and intrigued! Location is also very important as people usually take this into consideration when planning their trip.
Also there is a increase in museums employing marketing tools and utilizing PR departments to help get their name out there, also so that the general public knows what attractions are about to be showcased!
